Summer Program

Subject Philosophy

HKIS Counseling recommends students participate in a productive activity during the summer months of high school.

This may range from doing community service, pursuing a non-paying internship, getting a job, participating a pre-college academic program, or doing college visits. However, as valuable as it can be to participate in organized activities, it is also important to spend time with your family, relax, read for pleasure, develop a hobby, etc. 

For those of you interested in pursuing an organized summer program, we have provided a searchable table of possibilities. Go to DragonNet to see all the options. Please note this is not a comprehensive list, and the counseling department doesn't officially endorse any specific programs, but the ideas below are worth exploring as you determine how to best spend the summer. You can search by location(s) and/or topic(s) that interest you and click through the hyperlinked program name to find more details. Topics are listed as close to the program's wording as possible, so you may need to search for multiple terms that are similar to each other to see all available options (i.e. Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, and Kinesiology might all reflect similar programs). 

New programs are added as they become known, and this table is audited at least once per year to ensure programs and their websites are still active. However, providers may add and/or subtract certain topics from one year to the next, which is difficult to keep current, so please check the provider website for the most up-to-date information. If you come across a dead link/program or have a new program to suggest, please send an email to hscounseling@hkis.edu.hk. 

Some summer programs require applications, high school transcripts, and teacher/counselor recommendations. Please ask teachers/counselors before inputting their contact information into the application, and make requests at least a few weeks ahead of any deadlines. All evaluations/recommendations are confidential and will be submitted directly to the provider. Please also express your gratitude because this goes above and beyond their official duties!

HKIS's online course partner Global Online Academy offers a handful of summer options. These programs enable students to earn HKIS course credit.
