Subject Philosophy
We believe that art is an approach to life, a universal language that fosters the development of mind, body and spirit. Art and Design can challenge perceptions, uplift and entertain us, and enrich our emotional and spiritual lives. Art and Design is a powerful form of personal, social, and cultural expression. It is a unique "way of knowing" that enables individuals and groups to create ideas and images that reflect, communicate, and change their views of the world.
Art and Design learning at HKIS is designed as a developmental journey that offers learners unique opportunities to respond and move between creative ideas and the exploration of the practical world of materials and their application. Through this journey, learners develop the visual literacy skills that allow them to express and share their perspective on the world, and come to understand the role of art and design as an expression of human culture. Learners will develop skills curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, reflection, communication and collaboration that enhance learning in other disciplines and augment their life experiences beyond school.
