Health
In our current model, Health uses some time from the Seminar and SPEX curriculum. Students will learn about a number of topics that are developmentally appropriate.
Beliefs: Health Education
Comprehensive health education provides students with opportunities to acquire the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary for making health-promoting decisions, achieving health literacy, adopting health-enhancing behaviors, and promoting the health of others. We believe that students are most successful in an environment that promotes healthy habits, healthy relationships and balanced wellbeing.
Disciplinary transfer goals: Students will independently use their learning to:
- Critically evaluate health information and external influences to make informed decisions that promote health and wellbeing;
- Advocate for the health and wellbeing of self and others in response to changing environments and needs;
- Use interpersonal communication skills to manage conflict, maintain healthy relationships and improve quality of life.
Common agreements
We agree that Health Education happens best when we provide opportunities for students to:
- Engage with curriculum informed by evidence-based anchor resources;
- Experience a sexual health curriculum that is age-appropriate, medically accurate, culturally responsive and inclusive;
- Engage with a skills-based curriculum, with an emphasis on developing health literacy;
- Explore health concepts that are vertically-aligned and articulated R1-12;
- Be advocates for health and wellbeing within the school and global community.
